The very first of what has become an annual Christmas adventure series for ALDI in the UK. Kevin the Carrot’s first sojourn across a vast holiday dinner spread rife with unexpected events and harrowing bravery.
LIVE ACTION INTEGRATION
The live action was shot in a single day in Hampton Hill southwest of London. A full cg previz was executed and locked ahead of the shoot to establish overall pacing and the specific shot by shot compositions needed to create the landscape ‘shot plates’ in which Kevin and his journey would be integrated.
It was important to the directors that film felt cinematic and naturally grounded despite our ‘CG hero’. Kevin went through a full CG character pipeline with the asset build and realistic look development done to remain true to the final desired look. Once the edit was locked, the plates were tracked the animation could get integrated and finalized to the last detail, including a bit of lip sync animation. Included were lots of subtle but detailed CFX and FX again serving the ‘natural’ look target. The CG lighting was informed by HDRIs that were captured on set. Nuke compositors did the final integration and massage of our CG character into the real world ‘obstacle course’ of a beautiful Christmas dinner.
